Twas the Night before Christmas – A Visit from St. Nicholas _ Originally published in 1912 _ Plus: Biography of Clement Clarke Moore.

Published anonymously in 1823 as “A Visit from St. Nicholas”, this poem is perhaps the most famous Christmas poem in the United States. Clement Clarke Moore claimed authorship of it in 1837.

The poem tells the story of a family settling in for the night when the father hears noises outside. Looking outside, he sees Santa Claus landing in his sleigh pulled by its eight reindeer on the roof of the house, coming down the chimney and delivering toys to the family.His short visit fills the silent house with joy and wonder.
