Go out of the Banking Bubble! And, FinTech, be careful to not create your own Bubble too!
Rotterdam – Rotterdam Port – Europe’s biggest port – Target : to reduce CO2 emission by 95/100 by 2050 ( Paris climate Agreement) – Projects : the Energy Island in North Sea to convert green power into green electricity; a Plan to transfer residual heat from the port to homes in South Holland; Thanks to some startups as App Pronto to reduce waiting time (to avoid energy waste); Cogoport, Indian startup the “booking.com” for logistics says the Ceo Carmit Glik; Fieldlab Blockchain – invoicing system for container rentals; Kotug– sustainable system for storing & regenerating heat on tugboats.
Tallinn (Estonia) – advanced digital city- with its e-Estonia project = government services available almost all digitally (e.i. electronic ID card launched in 2002 – digital nomad visa called the e-residency which allows you to set up an Estonian company online and access to Estonian banking & payment services); already teaching programming at school and getting lessons on building bitcoin apps. Thanks to its 550 startups and its Tech Talents as Estonian engineers from Skype. TransferWise, sales management tool provider Piperdrive and transportation network company Taxify are the Top 3 employers.
Porto – the Haven for the entrepreneurs – city’s prime incubator with its University and its UPTEC. As example of success startup, we find Farfetch– luxury fashion retail platform, founded in 2007 by Jose Neves. And also the startup Veniam– connected transportation – based on the ” internet of moving things”- vehicles talking to each other on a daily basis.
Luxembourg – The FinTech country. – Concentration of technology offering practical help to the existing industry. A National FinTech platform thanks to the Luxembourg House of Financial Technologies supporting the collaboration between startups and companies – including wealthtech, robots-advisory solutions, making it easier to comply with regulatory requirements (regtech). Luxembourg hosts important institutions as the European Court of Justice and the European Investment Bank (EIB). Two examples of business stories with ArcelorMittal specialised in high performance steel beams – important in the construction sector as used for the One world trade Center in NY and at the Burj Khalifa Tower in the UAE. – Another example, the Exchange (LGX) launched in 2016, platform for sustainable financial instruments.
London – “The city is a world leader in Fintech” says Eileen Burbidge, chair of the government-funded Tech City UK. Innovation is “all over London”. We find there: Skype, Shazam, Rightmove, Funding Circle, Google…
Well Done to each of them.
According to me, the key of an Innovative City is its Talents, its engineers, its architects, its businessmen. It depends on the entrepreneurship of the startups but also on the Education. Let’s give them a chance and let’s support them by investing in their projects, sharing ideas & experiences. Wuilia’s choice goes to Porto. Let’s encourage this city!
